Terms of Service

1. Account Requirements

  • An ArcOS account is required to access the platform.

  • Account types: Regular Users and System Administrators.

2. User Content

  • Users may upload apps, send messages, share files, and submit bug reports.

  • Users retain ownership of all content they create or upload.

  • Administrators may remove content that violates rules, subject to approval from Izaak Kuipers.

3. Storage Limitations

  • Each account is allocated 1GB of storage space.

  • Administrators may adjust this limit at their discretion.

4. Prohibited Activities

  • Users must not engage in illegal activities, upload harmful content, or violate the rights of others.

  • Violation may result in account disapproval or deletion.

5. Account Termination

  • Two-phase process:

    • Account Disapproval: Access is restricted but data is retained.

    • Account Deletion: Permanent and irreversible data removal.

6. Service Availability

  • ArcOS is provided "as is," without guarantees of uptime or availability.

  • Efforts are made to maintain service stability.

7. Administrator Conduct

  • Administrators operate on a need-to-know basis.

  • Scopes are assigned strictly by Izaak Kuipers.

  • Actions are first discussed and approved before enforcement.

8. Bug Reporting System

  • ArcOS uses a custom bug reporting system to collect detailed crash information and user-submitted reports.

  • Collected data may include:

    • Crash details including stack trace.

    • System log items.

    • User account information and preferences.

    • Browser's user agent string.

    • Frontend/backend URLs.

    • Version of ArcOS and its mode.

    • Development metadata.

  • Users may submit bug reports manually via the Bug Reports app with the following options:

    • Make the report anonymous or public. Public reports can be viewed by all users and do not include personal data.

    • Exclude system log information.

  • Bug report data is only accessible to authorized ArcOS administrators and the user account that triggered the crash or submitted the report.

9. Updates to the Terms

  • Users are responsible for reviewing the latest Terms of Service on the ArcOS documentation site.

  • No proactive notifications are provided.

10. General Disclaimers

  • ArcOS is not designed or intended to function as a primary operating system. Usage as such is discouraged.

  • ArcOS is a web-based operating system environment, often referred to as a WebOS, running entirely within the browser using modern web technologies.

  • All visual, audio, and other assets contained within ArcOS belong to their respective authors. Wallpapers, sounds, and similar resources were explicitly licensed to the ArcOS development team as early as 2023. Redistribution of these assets is strictly prohibited.

  • It is not possible to access user data from ArcOS v5 or v6. This data was deleted during the ArcOS project shutdown in September 2024. ArcOS v7 is not backward-compatible with previous versions.

  • As of May 2025, ArcOS v7 is still in pre-release development. Users should expect incomplete features, UX inconsistencies, bugs, and unstable environments. The ArcOS v7 backend may be reset to zero upon full release; this decision has not been finalized.

  • The estimated release date for ArcOS v7 is August 2025. Until that time, ArcOS and related pages are to be considered incomplete, in-development software.

  • Izaak Kuipers assumes no responsibility for loss of information while using ArcOS v7, whether in beta or as a stable product. ArcOS is a hobbyist project developed extensively but offers no guarantee of data redundancy or backups. While data security is a priority and user data is protected, it is ultimately the user’s responsibility to maintain backups.

  • The Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, and Community Guidelines are subject to updates and will be finalized by the general public release of ArcOS v7.

  • The ArcOS v7 source code and any related repositories remain private until further notice. Decisions regarding open-source licensing are pending and based on development priorities and resources.
